Ruparelia Foundation boss, Rajiv Ruparelia has on Monday, February 30, offered to sponsor Ugandan child budding rapper Felista Di Superstar aka Faith Nanyanzi primary education.

The businessman – through his Ruparelia Foundation on Monday unveiled Felista to Kampala Parents School – offering the young rapper a fully study scholarship up-to primary seven.

The signing was attended by School’s lawyers, Spice Diana, Levixone among others,

The businessman said the Ruparelia Foundation to whom he is the Managing Director was ready to sponsor primary education for the eight-year-old rapper at one of his schools, Kampala Parents School.

Rajiv thanked the founders of Kampala Parents School, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, trustees for supporting the cause when he called them, Bravo Shoes who came on board to give a hand, the music fraternity for discovering promoting and maturing her journey.

He added that Felista was joining a model school which creates more opportunities, thus advised her to participate in all co-curricular activities.

“Education is not about learning in the book; education is about learning life skills that will help you live in the future when you are old. We shall ensure you learn how to avail your discipline, be confident and we shall make sure that all we offer to you helps you grow your music carrier. Lastly, I would advise Felista’s parents to save from what they’ve been paying to another school such that the money helps her in secondary,” Rajiv said.

The tycoon in April this year recruited another rapper Fresh Kid-real name Patrick Senyonjo whom he offered a full scholarship till primary seven at the same school.

Rajiv who then said he was moved by Fresh Kid’s ambition being only seven (7) years old and, “I would love to see him become a guide and inspiration to many young people out there hence, Ruparelia Foundation is presenting this young man with a full scholarship from the Ruparelia Foundation to go to Kampala Parents School”.

Fresh Kid went on to finish top of his class less than a year into KPS one of Uganda’s top educational facilities.

The young and talented singer was announced as an academic giant at the end of year exams – topping his P.2 stream at KPS. This is could be another reason Rajiv decided to sign another artist as he seeks to promote talents.

Felista Di Superstar is an 8-year-old Ugandan Female Rapper newest on the block.

She is being raised by a single Father who supports her talent. NAWAMBYE is her first single and a lot more on the way.

The head teacher Kisindizi primary school in Pakanyi sub county Masindi district together with his primary one teacher have been arrested on allegations of asking for money from parents.

Ajileo Byenkya the head teacher and his primary one teacher only identified as Jenifer were arrested yesterday from their school on orders of RDC Masindi district Godfery Nyakahuma.

Nyakahuma told www.mknewslink.com that the head teacher allegedly asked for 26,000 shillings from a parent who had gone to register her two new children at the school in primary one where he asked for 13000 shillings per child.

Nyakahuma said  government does not allow any government aided school to charge any money from learners adding that they will not allow this and the head teacher will appear in court.

Cosmas Byaruhanga the chairman of the district also condemned the act of asking for money from parents in government schools but expressed concern over the arrest of the head teacher saying it required much investigation before his arrest.

Byaruhanga noted that yesterday was the first day for the learners to report at school and if it starts with such cases it may demoralize some head teachers from performing their duties.

Efforts to get a comment from the accused head teacher were futile by press time.

DFCU TO LAY OFF WORKERS; CLOSE 20 BRANCHES AFTER EVICTION FROM CRANE BANK’S BUILDINGS

Dfcu bank has been thrown out of Meera Investment Limited properties also owned by tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia.

Bank properties were seen being loaded into waiting trucks along Kampala Road at Crane Chambers that used to be the headquarters of Crane bank.

This comes after Dfcu bank last year asked Bank of Uganda to take back titles for the 48 properties that belong to Meera Investments Limited.

www.mknewslink.com has also learnt that Dfcu is also set to down size on the workers plus closing more 20 branches across the country.

The development, which first came out about last year but denied by the Dfcu bank has now come true with the bank facing the consequences of controversial Crane Bank takeover in 2017.

The Dfcu bank in October issued a statement denying the bank was shutting down 20 branches housed in the disputed Meera Investments Limited buildings, but insisted that a review of the bank’s branch network was part of her digital strategy

On August 26, 2019, Court ruled on Miscellaneous Application No.320 of 2019 in favor of Sudhir Ruparelia and Meera Investments Limited dismissing Suit No.493 of 2017 where Crane Bank (receivership) had sued Sudhir Ruparelia and Meera Investments Limited to recover Shs397 billion allegedly swindled.

Court ruled that costs of the application be paid by the Bank of Uganda on the basis that Crane Bank (in receivership) is non-existent and does not have locus standi to put forth any claim against Sudhir and Meera Investments Limited.

This development comes at the time when Dfcu is embroiled in yet another scandal after Britain’s Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) Group is  stuck with its 9.97 shares in Dfcu bank following the insistence by the potential buyer, Investment Fund for Development Countries that Dfcu bank avails minutes regarding the purchase of Crane Bank Limited on January 25, 2017.

Teachers attending the ongoing training of Senior One Teachers on Uganda’s revised Lower Secondary Curriculum in Albertine region today morning held a peaceful demonstration protesting low transport allowance.

The Ministry of Education and the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) on Monday started to conduct the sessions across 27 centers in the country with Albertine region training at Duhaga secondary school in Hoima municipality.

However, today morning, teachers told trainers how they are not ready for any other session until their grievances are solved.

Among these was to assure them of daily 30,000 transport allowance, providing them with good meals, improved washrooms among others.

Some of the teachers said that when they reported on Monday, trainers did not tell them about transport allowance until their fellows in other training centers revealed to them that they are supposed to be given 30,000 per day.

The peaceful demonstration has forced trainers together with Hoima district Education Officer Mr. Godfrey Sserwanja to call for a meeting with teachers to resolve their grievances.

During the meeting, teachers kept watering down Mr. Sserwanja’s speech as he went on threatening to deal with those who have misbehaved.

Sserwanja told teachers that they should mind about their relevance and sustainability of the program otherwise the demonstration might cost some of them.

George Irumba who is in charge of administration at Duhaga secondary school training Centre said that they have been challenged with most teachers who have decided to keep departing the training Centre after registering their names in the daily attendance list.

They have however resolved to go on with training sessions after accepting to pocket 30,000 transport allowances which will be given to them at the end of the training on Friday this week.

The SESEMAT programme was introduced in 2005 with the purpose of improving the teaching ability of science and mathematics teachers at secondary level; and to improve performance in those subjects.

She added that the government of Uganda has constructed more that 1000 institutions countrywide which are meant to address the challenges of lack of productive skills and unemployment in our country especially among the youth.

The Rukungiri district local government public accounts committee (PAC) has resumed its investigations into the expenditure of Ugx 100 millions that was given to Kebisoni town council as startup capital.

The investigations came after the former town clerk Nicholas Kahumuza and treasure Kenneth Byaruhanga failed to explain the whereabouts of this money.

Kebisoni town council was created in 2016/17 financial year and given 100 millions as startup capital that was supposed to help the town council in its operations.

Wilson Kamukungu, the committee chairperson says that the current town clerk Charles Najunwah tried to explain to the PAC committee during the first visit of the committee but did not satisfy them a thing that prompted them to call the former town clerk and the treasure to explain the whereabouts of this money.

Kamukungu says the former town clerk Kahumuza must clearly explain accountability of this money or else be taken to courts of laws and be charged with corruption, misusing public office and misuse of tax payer’s money among others cases.

“They must present a clear document explaining the expenditure of this money and we shall not desist from arresting them in case of any failure or delay” Kamukungu said.

Charles Najunwah, the current town clerk told the committee members that he couldn’t satisfy them since he wasn’t in the office by the time when the town council was created.

“I couldn’t satisfy the committee because am not the one who received this money so the one whom I succeeded is the right person to explain this issue” Najunwah added.

On responding, the former town clerk told the committee that him and treasure used 20 million for purchasing town council, 30 millions for partitioning and renovating the administration block, 6 million for buying town council furniture and the rest used in the operations of the town council.

However, Kahumuza and the treasure Kenneth asked the committee to grant them a period of 3 days, which the committee granted and revisit the spending vouchers for the purposes of explaining thorough the expenditure of this money.

William Mwambu, the male district councilor for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) has dragged Masindi district local government and the district speaker Moses Kirya to court accusing them of continued mistreatment and harassment.

Mwambu filed the case at Masindi high court on the 6th of February 2020 through Yefusa Ochieng from Legal Action for Persons with Disabilities (LAPD) and the hearing date is on 18th of February 2020.

Mwambu says he dragged the two parties to court following his continued dismissal from Masindi district council by Moses Kirya the district council speaker.

Moses Kirya the district speaker has suspended Mwambu for three times in two years. He first suspended him in May last year on grounds that he had failed to produce social services report, he was also suspended  in September  last year and in January this year because of misconduct during council proceedings.

According to Mwambu, he wants court to quash the purported decision of 6th January 2020 where he was suspended for two council sittings. He also adds that he wants court to prohibit the speaker from any further unjustified suspension without the due process of the law.

Mwambu also says that he wants court to compel the district speaker to allow him continue attending council sittings with immediate effect. He also wants court to compel the two parties to pay his allowances together with that of the guide.

The politician notes that he wanted their impasse to be solved amicably stating that he tried to engage the district officials and also wrote an intention to sue but all in vain.

When contacted the district council speaker, Moses Kirya, explained that Mwambu has a right to do anything because the law mandates him adding that for him is ready to meet him in court.

Commenting on the matter, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV chairperson said that he is not aware of Mwambu dragging Masindi district local government and the district speaker to court adding that they had planned to have a consultative meeting with him on Tuesday next week before opting for the next step.

In Masindi
Bunyoro Kitara Reparations Agency (BUKITAREPA) has resuscitated plans to petition parliament of Uganda to investigate how the government of Uganda used the 700 million pounds which is said to have been given to Banyoro by the Queen of England.
According to Doviko Batwale, the National Chief coordinator BUKITAREPA, they had resolved to do so in 2018 but they were delayed by the cases they filed in the African Union court against the government of Uganda.
In 2007, BUKITAREPA dragged the Queen of England to court for the atrocities committed by the colonial forces on their people. But the Queen of England decided to settle the matter outside court and gave out 700 million pounds to Banyoro through the government of Uganda.
Batwale says that this money has never reached the beneficiaries and they have enough evidence showing how the government received it adding that even the president has been quoted many times talking about the same money.
The members resolved to petition parliament during a meeting organized by BUKITAREPA at country Inn hotel on Friday.
Batwale dismissed claims by the president that the money has been used to construct roads in Bunyoro sub region saying that government has a fully-fledged budget for roads.
He added that their lawyer is working on the petition in Netherlands noting that when time for delivering it reaches they will communicate officially.
The meeting was attended by more than 200 BUKITAREPA members from the districts of Nakasongola, Masindi, Kyegegwa, Hoima, Bulisa, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Mubende, Kikuube and Kiryandongo.
Batwale explains that they resolved to form an elders’ forum which will be analyzing, laying strategies and looking deep into BUKITAREPA issues.
