EPL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR HOST LIVERPOOL AT WEMBLEY STADIUM IN EARLY KICKOFF

SPORTS NEWS:
The acid test for Liverpool’s title credentials comes at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime as a hurting Tottenham side will be raring to go after a sloppy defeat last time out at Watford cost them their perfect start to the season.
Mauricio Pochettino will be without Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli but is likely to send his team out with a flea in their ear after that Watford defeat, coming on the back of a superb victory at Old Trafford, could be a momentum killer for his squad.
A saturday lunchtime after an international break is never an ideal kick-off time, but there should be two fired-up sides at Wembley as Jurgen Klopp will remember Liverpool’s calamitous 4-1 thrashing at this ground last season and will not want a repeat of that outing.
Liverpool seem a different animal these days though with Virgil van Dijk really shoring up that backline and Alisson, despite his howler at Leicester, looking a far more stable presence in goal, so they should offer more resistance this time around.
Everyone’s well aware that Liverpool have not been at their best yet this season but they’ll need to find something more to get a result from a Spurs side that only lost twice at home in the league last season.
A draw would probably do both sides, but on what we’ve seen so far this term then Liverpool have enough against a weakened Spurs to go and get what could be a real statement victory for their title chances.
Head to Head Statistics
Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games against Liverpool (D4 L6), though it was a 4-1 victory in this exact fixture last season.
Liverpool have only failed to score in one of their last 12 Premier League meetings with Spurs – a 0-0 draw in Jurgen Klopp’s first game in charge of the Reds in October 2015.
There have been 149 goals scored in Premier League meetings between Tottenham and Liverpool – Arsenal vs Everton is the only fixture to have seen more in the competition (151).
Tottenham, who lost against Watford on matchday four, haven’t suffered consecutive Premier League losses since the final two games of the 2015-16 season.

Spurs’ Manager Pochetino with Liverpool Boss Klopp

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored all three of Liverpool’s goals against Tottenham in the Premier League last season.
Tottenham forward Harry Kane has been directly involved in seven goals in seven Premier League appearances against Liverpool (five goals, two assists), including four in the last two.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Roberto Firmino has had a hand in 60 Premier League goals (37 goals, 23 assists), 15 more than any other Liverpool player.

MUSEVENI DISHES CASH TO YOUTHS IN KAMPALA, WAKISO DISTRICTS

In Kampala—
President Yoweri Museveni has assured the youth in the country that offering extra help to youth SACCOs and groups is not based on Parties as rumored but rather on the ongoing workshops that he has been seeing on different Kampala Capital City Authority roads.
President Museveni was today continuing his tour and launching of common user facilities in Kawempe and Nakawa Divisions. He began the tour yesterday with common user facilities in some areas in Wakiso District and Kampala Capital City Authority yesterday.
He also informed the youth artisans of Kampala that he is going to ban Ugandan Ministries from importing office furniture as the carpentry shops operated by Ugandans in the country can provide them.
Museveni urged the youth to elect leaders that would be able to listen to their concerns and find solutions to those challenges. He reiterated that the reason why the youth were still facing challenges is because of voting poor leaders who only care about themselves and their salaries.
Regarding electricity generation, the President said that the cost of power will soon be reduced because of the increased hydro power dams. He added that more power generation will go a long way in enabling the youth to carry out their work at cheaper costs of electricity.
During the tour, the President presented cheques to different youth SACCOs. In Kawempe Division, Bwaise Industrial Area Carpenters Joinery and Bwaise Timber Sellers received Shs.100 million each; while Kawempe Kiyindi Welders, Kawempe Metal Fabricators, Kagoma Furniture Makers and Kagoma United Fabricators scooped Shs. 50 million each.
In Nakawa Division, 490 million shillings to Kireka Metal Box SACCO and Nakawa Fabricators, among others, received Shs.490 million each.
The President promised to give FUSO trucks to every youth SACCO. He was gifted a wooden table and stool from Bwaise Carpentry youth as a token of their appreciation.

President Museveni revealed that the unnecessary deaths of Ugandans through shootings by unknown assailants will soon be a story of the past.
Right from the murder of Muslim clerics to Maj.Muhammad Kiggundu, Joan Kagezi and AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi to the recent one of former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira, assailants traveling on motorbikes open fire on vehicles of their targets before killing them instantly and riding away swiftly.
Speaking during his second address on the state of security in the country at Entebbe State House on Saturday evening, the president said that he is sure this will be brought to an end soon.
“I am annoyed and pained by these unnecessary deaths of Ugandans; but I am confident because we have the capacity to respond,” Museveni noted.
Museveni said that in nine months from now, all the required technology including CCtv cameras will have been installed on almost all major highways and centres in the towns of the country.
Police recently revealed that a total of 3233 new closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) are set to be installed in various areas of the greater Kampala Metropolitan area in addition to the ones already in place.
A total of 5552 cameras are expected to be installed countrywide.
Museveni said as the country waits for the CCtv cameras and other technical means to be put in place, the country can still rely on human intelligence and human observation.

www.mknewslink.com

71 people allegedly trafficked through and from Uganda were on Friday arrested by Kenyan security operatives during one of the biggest crackdown conducted on a suspected human trafficking racket.
59 of the rescued are Ugandan nationals or at least hold Ugandan passports, Seven are Burundians and the rest, five, are Tanzanians.
The group composed of mainly women was picked at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya while on their way to Oman.
Kenyan officials were alarmed on discovery that the suspects had “fake entry stamps” in their passports and consequently apprehended them pending possible prosecution and deportation to their respective countries.
The Kenyan Department of Immigration Services said they were using illegal documents.
“More than 50 illegal immigrants arrested while in transit to Oman. They are being detained at Nyayo House awaiting deportation,” the department said in a tweet.
Following the accusations and counter accusations, Uganda and Kenya entered an agreement on July 31 during a meeting at Lwakhakha border in Namisindwa District in Uganda aimed at working towards harmonising the legal regimes of the two countries as a way of putting up a joint fight against human trafficking.
Several Ugandan girls and women, believed to be victims of human trafficking, have since the start of this year been rescued or arrested by Kenyan authorities on their way to Middle East countries.
Just a week ago, a total of 22 Ugandan suspected victims of trafficking were rescued in Busia and Malaba Kenya and handed over to the Ugandan authorities.

CELEBRITY: MUSICIANS SHUN MUSEVENI’S ‘BIRTHDAY’; BEBE COOL LEFT HANGING

www.mknewslink.com
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:
Was it really president Museveni’s birthday?
He attended Kyamate Primary School in Ntungamo, Mbarara High School, and Ntare School. It was while at high school that he became a born-again Christian and a student leader.
There is a huge reason for doubt, but Bebe Cool sent his best of wishes to the man in power as fellow other artistes shunned the entire idea.
According to google, President Kaguta Yoweri Museveni was born on 15th August 1944. The internet was however filled with birthday messages to the Ugandan leader yesterday (15th September 2018) with various media companies, celebrities, and individuals wishing him a happy birthday.
President Museveni was born on September 15, 1944, in Ntungamo, South-western Uganda.
Maj Gen Kainerugaba, who is also Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations, was the first to congratulate his father before the NRM Party to which Museveni is Chairman and other Ugandans followed suit.
As you would expect, all our eyes were out to see what Bebe Cool had to say on such a day. Being the most vocal and sworn Museveni celebrity supporter, the Gagamel Phamily CEO was quick in following the social media wave to wish Museveni a happy birthday.

MUSEVENI AND BEBECOOL RECENTLY

In his message, Bebe Cool mocked the ‘bazzukulu‘ with the caption;
“Happy birthday father of the nation, jajja wa abazukulu, tata wa bana ne byana.”
Other artistes however seemed either not to agree that it was indeed Museveni’s birthday yesterday, or they just intentionally shunned away from wishing Mzee a happy one.
Whatever their reasons, we are torn in-between believing if it was indeed his birthday or yet another reason to concur with his allegations that the internet is filled with ‘fake news’.

SPICE DIANA MEETS GIRL WHO WROTE HER ‘NDIMULOVE’ LYRICS IN EXAMS
In-form singer Hajjara Namukwaya Diana, better known as Spice Diana, revealed that she met a student who wrote her ‘Ndimulove‘lyrics in exams.

Ndi Mu Love hitmaker Spice Diana

While performing at an event on Saturday, at Lugogo Hockey grounds, Spice called the yet identified girl’s name on stage to sing any of her songs, and surprising the student sang word-for-word of her ‘Ndimulove’ song something that took her breath away.
So, after performing Spice met the girl backstage where the two had a little chat. Here the girl narrated to Spice how she got punished and laughed at in class and on school assembly when she wrote the lyrics of her song in examinations as answers.
The girl’s story sounded weird and untrue to Spice but when she closely looked in her eyes she believed the young girls story.
From that point we have not yet known what the two concluded on but as we have seen Spice throughout this year, we will not be surprised to hear collaboration between the two or a song soon about the girl’s story.
Anyway congs Spice for such a memorable story that you will leave tell your bazukulu!

UCL: IN-FORM LIVERPOOL BATTLES PSG IN UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Monday 17th September 2018
By Aiden Graw
www.mknewslink.com
SPORTS NEWS:
UEFA Champions League 2018/2019 starts in gear as we head in for group stages this week.
Last year’s UEFA Champions League runners-up Liverpool will begin their European campaign by facing French champions, Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield. The Reds have made a perfect start to the Premier League season but now face a difficult period of fixtures with PSG, Chelsea twice, Manchester City and Napoli all within next six matches. Les Parisiens have also enjoyed a perfect start to their league campaign, so these are two of Europe’s in-form sides and are sure to produce an interesting contest.
Previous Matches: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
Liverpool faced their toughest test of the season so far against Spurs at Wembley and passed with flying colors. The difference at the end of the game was only a goal but it could’ve and should’ve been more, as on another day The Reds could’ve easily had 5 or 6. Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino scored either side of half-time on a day when The Merseysiders executed an excellent counter-attacking display.
Jurgen Klopp’s men didn’t see much of the ball (39%) but produced 17 shots with 10 on target, the lion’s share over 90 minutes. Erik Lamela got a very late consolation for Tottenham which took the shine off the scoreline from Liverpool point of view, but this result will only boost the Kopites’ confidence of a title challenge.
Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Saint-Etienne (Ligue 1)
On Friday night, PSG also extended their winning run to five games by thrashing Saint-Etienne 4-0 in Paris. The visitors had been unbeaten until this point (1 win and 3 draws) but came unstuck in the capital. The home side simply had too much for Les Verts, with goals from Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, and Moussa Diaby sealing a 4-0 victory. It was a typically impressive display from the defending champions, dominating in both possession and chance creation, but Tuesday will be a completely different test.
Liverpool rested some players in their Saturday game against Tottenham, but can’t afford to do so under the lights on Tuesday. Fabinho and Joel Matip should return to the starting XI and Xherdan Shaqiri could be handed a start in place of Firmino, who picked up an eye injury against Spurs. Daniel Sturridge could be a direct replacement for Firmino up front, but Shaqiri is pushing harder for a start.

Liverpool Predictible Lineup

PSG also rested players for their weekend match, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos all not featuring against Saint Etienne. The aforementioned players all come into their normal starting positions.

PSG Predictible Lineup

The big question mark is in goal, who starts out of Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola? I believe it’ll be Buffon, as he started in the Trophee des Champions and is one of the most experienced players in Champions League history.
The most expensive football player in history is always going to be key to how this game goes. Liverpool will probably break down PSG’s defense at some point like they do to every team, but how the away side performs with the crowd on their backs will be critical to the outcome of this game. Whether he’s providing, scoring himself or taking free-kicks,

WORLD’s MOST EXPENSIVE PLAYER NEYMAR

Neymar is always a threat and how The Reds deal with the Brazilian will define how the evening goes. Contain him, and Liverpool have a good chance of winning, don’t, and it could be a very long night. Virgil Van Dijk’s excellent record at the back for Liverpool will be put to the sword on Tuesday.
We hear it every year, but after last season, and their start to their campaign, this could be the one for Liverpool fans. Runners-up in the Champions League shows real progress under Jurgen Klopp, but the German still hasn’t added to the illustrious trophy cabinet at Anfield. The additions of Alisson in goal, Naby Keita in midfield and Xherdan Shaqiri on the wing add some depth and quality to an already top side. The trophy could come from any of this season’s four competitions, but a win in a game against PSG is a real yardstick of where they are at this early stage.
Aiden’s Prediction: Liverpool 2-2 PSG/ Over/Both Teams To Score
With both sides possessing some of the best attacking talents in the world, there will be goals in this one. Liverpool and PSG are at full strength, but the visitors have rested more crucial players and have had longer time since their previous match. The Reds will have the Anfield crowd roaring them on and could win this game, but I feel their winning run could end here. With the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, Cavani and Di Maria on from the start and Draxler able to inflict damage from the bench, the French side will likely score, but so will Liverpool, they seemingly always do.

HON.ROBERT KYAGULANYI ANNOUNCES RETURN DATE; FEARS ARREST

Monday 17th September 2018
www.mknewslink.com
In WASHINGTON DC –
Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has revealed that he will return to Uganda from the United States on Thursday, September 20, but said that he is afraid about the reception he will receive from the Kampala authorities.

BOBI WINE in an interview with Straight Talk Africa Recently

In an interview with South Africa’s Mail & Guardian on Sunday, Bobi Wine, who has for the last two weeks been in the US for medical checks following arrest and torture in the Arua election chaos, said history has shown that many freedom fighters have in the past been arrested on arrival in the country.

“I’ll be going back home on Monday. Of course, I’m worried, but that’s my home, that’s where my family is, that’s where all my people are,” he said.

“You can expect anything from Uganda. Because looking back in history many freedom fighters have been rudely arrested upon arrivals and I am not any different, so there is anything to expect,” he added.

On October 3, 2016, Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye was arrested at Entebbe International Airport moments after he landed. This was in connection with declaring himself the president after a private swearing-in ceremony organised by his supporters.

Dr Besigye arrived at Entebbe Airport at around 8:15 am and was reportedly immediately whisked away by security officers to an unknown destination.

On Tuesday, September 11, police and army officers stormed the venue of the meeting intended to organize the return of Bobi Wine in Kamwokya, Kampala, and confiscated their materials and arrested one of the organisers. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the meeting was illegal.

While in the US, Bobi Wine has addressed a press conference, been interviewed by international news channels BBC, Aljazeera, VOA and CNN. VOA’s Straight Talk Africa program last week featured the legislator and Ugandan Ambassador to the United States Mull Sebujja Katende.

He is expected to return after attending a panel discussion at George Washington University on Monday.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:
Singer Buchaman believes his long time ally who turned Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has got whatever it takes to be the President of Uganda.
It is clearly remembered that the two were very good and close brothers until things turned sour in 2011 when Buchaman accused Bobi Wine of not paying him for his hard work.
The ‘Lwaki Ttemumatira’ and ‘Kilimululu’ hitmaker made the remarks over the weekend following an interview over his new formed association with other outdated musicians like Henry Tigan that encourages youths to step out of politics.
According to Buchaman, the ‘Kyarenga’ star singer is still very youthful, energetic enough and very intellectual upstairs as he concluded by saying when Bobi becomes president he will be the vice president too.
Bobi Wine is a very intellectual person and is fit to be this country’s president. He needs no more introductions and explanations as his works speaks volumes for itself. -Buchaman
The last time we heard some good news between the two was when Bobi had reconsidered bringing Buchaman back to his camp and when his prayers come to life, we think Buchaman will be elated to skies and back.

MAKERERE LECTURER AMANDA GIVES OPINION ON URBANIZATION

$

www.mknewslink.com
In Kampala—
Smart Cities and Mobility as presented at the 11th annual symposium of Uganda Society of Architects held on 31st August 2018 at Golf Course Hotel
As cities of the developing world continue to urbanize, they are also under pressure to adopt the smart approach to growth and development.
Generally, cities serve as centers of hope, especially in developing countries, where there are sharp differences in the distribution of services and employment opportunities. They are also centers of hope for governments and private investors. This has an obvious impact on the city system and its functionality, due to the interaction and complexity of several urban development aspects. Notably, this also leads to increased demand for travel within urban clusters and their hinterlands. Consequently, this tends to result in unprecedented sprawl, which in turn translates into increased travel time and distances. People are forced to drive everywhere, a trend that is unsustainable and affects the general quality of life. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case in our capital, and greater Kampala area. The city is currently faced with rising levels of private motorization, amidst road expansion and improvement projects, aimed at majorly facilitating the smooth flow of vehicular traffic. The use of boda bodas is also still unavoidable mainly due to the traffic congestion, lack of an efficient public transport system and the obvious sprawled land uses. In fact the boda boda is operating as a public mode of transport-with very low carrying capacity; and this makes it an unsustainable mode for any city with a ‘smart’ vision to rely on.
Generally, if planners aim at having a green city, the center of its mobility planning ought to focus more on sustainable modes of transport-modes that ‘move people and not cars.’ And this shouldn’t be interpreted as a war against cars but a process towards a green and smart city; whereby green & smart imply energy efficient, convenient, consistent, reliable, people-friendly, improved business environment, improved quality of public space, better air quality, and a logical relationship between mobility and land use planning. An efficient transport systems should have a balanced modal share, where by walking, cycling and public/mass transport are prioritized, given their advantages, while leaving more room for the private car to run more efficiently. It is ironical that cities of the developing world have an ‘enviable’ walking population and yet minimal provision of descent and safe facilities.
As cities grapple with mobility challenges, active mobility plus public transport are definitely the way to go. This, however, will not happen except if governments prioritize and invest in this kind of system; in partnership with the private sector. As far as traffic and transportation planning is concerned, reducing automobile dependence, towards ‘walkable’ urban communities and transit orientation is a critical role planning authorities have to play.
The other factor that ought to be considered while planning for a green/smart city is parking. Both the search for parking and its provision in our city seem to be a regular motorist’s and city planners’ concern, respectively. However, from the evolution of parking, providing for it is a must but its location and capacity matters in relation to sustainability. The more parking provided for within the Central Business District the more private cars are attracted to it. Initiatives like park and ride are necessary in order to reduce the overdependence of the private car. Unless parking is properly managed, with a good parking policy, harmonized with an efficient transport system and existing land uses, it will continue to be a planning challenge affecting the functionality of the city and undermining the principles of a green/smart city.
The third component to be put into consideration by our city planning authority is the hierarchy of the road network in relation to land uses. Currently the road network is mixed up and the categorization is unclear; where all roads can perform all functions, no matter the type of traffic, existing/planned land uses and zones they serve. In such a case, for example, a fuel tanker can easily go through a residential neighborhood; something that does not only pollute the environment but also compromises road safety for residents and their families. This component also must take care of the city drainage.
The fourth component that is rapidly disappearing in Kampala in particular, and Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA), is the quality of public spaces. Some may render it is luxurious but it is that space necessary in every city, is owned and should be enjoyed by the individual users at no cost. In relation to quality public space, walkability is a design feature, which enhances community revitalization and enhances civic pride in a city. Also, a combination of transit oriented development and compact neighborhoods, and which are mainly accessed by bus or rail, is a smart step towards reclaiming public spaces in their preferred form. It is important to realize that transportation intersects several segments of societal well being, and economic development. It is an active wheel of sustainable urban development because with or without intervention, mobility will not be interrupted, and somehow there is always a ‘creative’ way to go about it no matter how inefficient it may be.
Obviously, every city is different, and to try to become exactly like another can be detrimental to your specific city sustainable development. But the good news is that the basics are the same and ‘people are just people’. Implementation, coordination, sensitization and enforcement are key in the smart city planning approach. The vision of the city is very important for city planners, policy makers, politicians and the general public. This vision has to be shared and owned, only then can it be achieved. For this reason, all national sectors are expected to have an urban component, especially given the current rate of urbanization. And for the case of Kampala, it is important to have an integrated plan incorporating all the aspects mentioned in this piece, but extract small-scale pilot projects for ease of implementation without shocking the existing establishment.

In Rubaga, Kampala—
Pr Robert Kayanja delved into various matters of security as he was addressing the 77 Days of Glory (77 DOGS) celebrations at Rubaga Miracle Cathedral on Sunday.
Below are some of the excerpts from his address.
‘Noise’ from church
After the assassination of former Buyende-DPC Mohammad Kirumira, president Museveni partly blamed a local church for ‘making noise’ which enabled the assailants escape. According to president Museveni, police officers attached to a nearby police station stated that they did not hear gunshots because of the ‘noise’ from a church. Kayanja explained that the ‘noise’ does not interfere with police work.
“If you look at the time which the murders are carried out, you realise that those are not hours that overnight prayers take place. Abiriga, Kirumira, and Joan Kagezi were killed between 6pm and 9pm, while Muhammed Kiggundu and Kaweesi were killed in the morning“, he stated.
LDUs are not welcome

Pr Kayanja disagreed with the restoration of Local Defence Units stating that the group were disbanded after they became thieves and perpetrators of crime.
“I doubt whether we need them[LDUs] back. We have had LDUs before but they were disbanded because some of them had become thieves”.
On alleged torture of Bobi Wine and other MPs
Kayanja condemned the alleged torture of MPs; Francis Zaake, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, civilians and journalists in the recent Arua By-election chaos.
“It is demeaning and a human rights violation. It was wrong for MPs Francis Zaake and Robert Kyagulanyi to be treated the way they were”, he stated.
Invest in intelligence
Kayanja advised the government to invest in intelligence agencies and equip them with better skills and technology.
Shun violence
Kayanja appealed to the masses to desist from violent acts. He encouraged the electorate to use their votes to speak for them.
Robert Kayanja started the Miracle Centre as a papyrus reed structure, together with a few other young ministers. Today it is among the region’s largest church buildings, accommodating over 10,000 people. He is also overseer of the Miracle Bible College, the Never Again Children’s project and the Kapeeka orphanage. He is the Director of Miracle Television and a frequent speaker on Daystar Television Network. The church has also founded over 1,000 Miracle Centre Churches across the country.
