UGANDA GIRLS SOLD IN OMAN AS SLAVES—PS BIGIRIMANA

In Kampala—
Government has said they are investigating reports that Ugandan girls seeking employment as domestic workers in Oman are being trafficked and sold as slaves.
In an interview yesterday, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development Permanent Secretary, Pius Bigirimana, confirmed that they have heard stories of Ugandans being illegally trafficked and sold in Oman to work as slaves and they are investigating the matter.
Bigirimana’s comments follow yesterday’s press conference by the National Organisation of Trade Unions, where two girls purportedly rescued from Oman were paraded before journalists to narrate the plight of Ugandan girls who are being trafficked and sold as slaves.
According to Ms Hasifa Walugambire, whose video went viral on social media last week, she was lured by a Kenyan lady only identified as Gladys, who conned her of Shs4 million to work as a banker in Oman, but when she arrived at the airport, she was taken to an office where she was told that she had been brought to work as a domestic worker.
“I would wake up at 4am and sleep at 2am. I would sleep for only one hour sometimes without food and I got fed up. When I refused to work, I was tortured and returned to the shop where they got me,” she said, adding that the shops sell Ugandan girls as both slaves and sex workers.
Ms Adikini Teddy Takia, also a victim, said she was lured to Oman through a friend called Susan who connected her to an agent based in Mbale, eastern Uganda, promising her a job as a waitress.
She was trafficked together with two other women through Malaba and flown through Jomo Kenyatta airport after their passports were confiscated.
Upon arrival at Muscat in Oman, they were told that they were going to work as domestic workers.
“I worked in a family of seven. I was subjected to domestic work like cleaning the walls and roof of the house without pay. I got disgusted and refused to work. I was tortured and returned to the shop where I was beaten,” she said.

SPORTS: ANDRE SILVA SCORES AS PORTUGAL BEAT ITALY IN UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE

www.mknewslink.com
FOOTBALL UPDATES:
Andre Silva struck a stylish goal as Portugal took control of their Nations League group by beating Italy.
Silva, who had a poor season in Italy with AC Milan before joining Sevilla on loan in August, controlled and steered in Bruma’s cross in the 48th minute.
Portugal were without Cristiano Ronaldo, excused from international duty and pictured relaxing with his family on a yacht in St Tropez.
Yet Fernando Santos’ side still had the better of this League A Group 3 match.
The win took them to the top of the group on three points, two clear of Poland and Italy.
Roberto Mancini’s side, showing nine changes from the team who drew their Nations League opener 1-1 with Poland in Bologna on Friday, looked disjointed for much of the night in Lisbon.
Mancini left former Manchester City and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli out of the squad altogether, and retained only goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho from Friday’s starting line-up.
Donnarumma, the AC Milan teenager, was fortunate not to concede just before the half-hour mark, fumbling Bruma’s header under pressure, then watching as Bernardo Silva’s drive goalwards was cleared off the line by Alessio Romagnoli.
The keeper redeemed himself in the second half after his team went behind, though, with a flying save to tip away Manchester City forward Silva’s 20-yard angled shot, and was sharp again late on to stop substitute Renato Sanches’ low shot.
Portugal should have been in front before they did score; Bryan Cristante deflected a Mario Rui cross against his own bar just after the half-hour mark, and the home side were then denied a penalty when Domenico Criscito blocked off Pizzi inside the area – with Scottish referee Willie Collum declaring it a fair challenge.
Italy were better in the closing stages, once Domenico Berardi and Emerson Palmieri came on, but without creating any clear chances.

HE PICKED LOVE MESSAGES FROM LOVE SONGS TO SEND TO RWABWOGO—ISIKO’S LAWYER

www.mknewslink.com
In Kampala—
Hearing of an appeal challenging a two-year jail sentence for a 25 year old Student convicted of cyber harassment and offensive communication against the Kabarole District Woman MP Sylvia Rwabwoogo, has started today.
Brian Isiko, 25, had been sentenced to two years in Luzira Prison but applied for bail which was granted last month by Justice Jane Francis Abodo after presenting two substantial sureties and being a first time offender.
Isiko was in July this year convicted by Buganda Road Magistrate’s court after confessing his too much love for Ms Rwabwogo. However, he appealed against the same in the High Court.
In his appeal, Isiko, a student of YMCA-Jinja branch argues that the sentencing magistrate erred when she changed his plea of not guilty to a plea of guilty based on partial admission.
Isiko’s lawyer reproduced the record of the lower court where he admitted downloading MP Rwabwogo’s contact from the parliamentary website and expressed his freedom of speech through sending her love messages that he had picked from love songs and poems of American celebrities including Don Williams and Enrique Iglesias.
“There is no single love message or phone call that is rude, obscene or indecent tendered in court by MP Rwabogo as originating from Isiko. The magistrate therefore acted unreasonable to convict him of offensive communication,” Wasiwa told court.
He further argues that the magistrate erred when she convicted him without subjecting the sntite evidence of the complainant to the standard required in a criminal trial.

www.mknewslink.com
SPORTS NEWS:
Fifa 19 is coming out soon and EA Sports have released the ratings for the top 10 players including Man Utd player David de Gea.
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been listed in the top 10 highest-rated Fifa 19players.
De Gea is among five United players who have made the top 100 and the Spaniard has finally supplanted Manuel Neuer as the video game’s best goalkeeper.
Fifa gamemakers EA Sports have given De Gea a 91 rating – the same as Luis Suarez, Sergio Ramos, Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Luka Modric. Fellow ‘keepers Neuer and Thibaut Courtois are on 91.

fifa19

EA Sports wrote: “The world’s highest-rated goalkeeper has the best nerves in the business; his 94 Reflexes and 90 Diving ratings mean that it will take more than a decent shot to catch him off-guard.
“Years of experience at the highest level have also honed the Spaniard’s superb 88 Positioning, and he has become one of the finest at distributing the ball with his foot, thanks to an 87 Kicking rating.”
Fifa cover star and United great Cristiano Ronaldo is listed at number one with a 94 rating, with Lionel Messi the only other player with 94. Neymar is listed third with 92.
United’s other top 100 representatives are midfielder Paul Pogba (88), forward Alexis Sanchez (87), striker Romelu Lukaku (87) and defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic (86). Ex-United number nine Zlatan Ibrahimovic has stayed on the list with an 85, despite moving to the MLS.
“Pogba left Russia as one of the most impressive players from throughout the tournament,” EA added. “He dominates midfield for club and country using a combination of creativity (86 Passing, 85 Dribbling) and brute force (87 Physical) that is rarely seen in the modern midfielder.
“But he doesn’t have to choose between brute force and technical wizardry, because he has an ample amount of both to work with.”
Sanchez:
“While he tends to drift all over the front line for both Manchester United and the Chile national team, Sanchez is in his element when lining up on the left and cutting inside (using his 89 Dribbling rating) to create havoc and open up space or to take a shot for himself utilising his respectable 83 Shooting rating.”
Lukaku:
“At first glance, the Belgian is the prime example of a traditional striker: Tall, strong (87 Physical), capable of brilliant finishing (82 Shooting).
“But Lukaku has earned himself a place in the game’s elite by combining his traditional forward’s qualities with an 84 Pace rating, meaning that he’s as likely to leave a defender in the dust as he is to muscle him off the ball. This is a rare combination in today’s game and explains the Belgian’s strong, consistent scoring numbers for both club and country.”
Matic:
“Generally deployed solely as a defensive midfielder, Serbian international Matic treats his role like a highly-specialized craftsman would. With 83 Defending and Physical ratings, Matic can do nearly anything needed in a defensive capacity – which he is often tasked with doing.”

GOVERNMENT MAY NOT EASILY PREVENT CRIMES—MINISTER KAHINDA

By Okoodi Deo
www.mknewslink.com
In Sheema—
The Justice and Constitution affairs minister Kahinda Otafiire has noted that government may not easily prevent crimes like murder from happening in the country as long as criminals remain in society.
Speaking to journalists in Mbarara where he closed a 23rd annual international management conference for Makerere University business school, Otafiire said that government is doing all the best to try and reverse this kind of trend by installing CCTV cameras and deployment of intelligence officers on city streets so to find out those involved in these crimes.
Commenting on the government’s proposal to merge some of its agencies, the justice minister said the move will create efficiency in management because they were not answerable to their line ministries and were also distorting payment systems and chain of command.
The Kitgum woman MP Beatrace Anywar also commenting on the merger proposal, said that government and cabinet should revisit the decision and exclude UNRA from the agencies listed because of good performance in road construction work.
She said that since UNRA’s inception, the road network has tremendously increased much more than when the response was still with ministry of works and transport which she said may not properly utilize all the road funds once the proposal is implemented.
Anywar also attributed the worrying security situation in the country to foreigners whom she said are financing and misleading some people in opposition in order to achieve their objectives.
She called on Ugandans not listen to such people in order to deny them the opportunity of dividing Ugandans.

GRAVITY BENDS LOW, AS HE APOLOGIZES TO NAVIO OVER ‘BLACK PANTHER’ SONG
Struggling Uga Luga-flow rapper Gravity Omutujju has come out and apologized to fellow rapper Navio following his ‘Black Panther‘ diss song.

Gravity in Black Panther Diss Song

In his ‘Black Panther’ song which was a reply to ‘Who Is Who’, Gravity in his usual rap trademark fast rough style was so quick to attack Navio as he dissed him that at his age he still receives support from his mother.
In the song he did not only rip apart Navio, no. He also bundled up GNLZamba and Babaluku.
When he attacked Zamba he simply had little diss about him as he only hinted that he ran to Europe in fear of stiff competition. For Babaluku he only knows how to teach youths how to get married to whites and after steal their property and money.

Navio at his Introduction

But it always came to Navio he unleashed the real Black Panther in him as said that even getting a child and getting married if it was not the support of his mother the dude would have not done anything.

In Kampala—-
A 21-year-old American national, was found dead in a hostel in Entebbe.
The body of James Larkin Crow, a resident of Texas in the U.S.A was on Thursday morning found hanging from the staircase rail leading up to the entrance of the hostel building located at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC).
Police say that the deceased was on treatment for depression.
“Close friends and relatives to the deceased told the detectives that he was depressed and was on medication which confirmed the school records that indicated the child had some anger issues related to his parents’ divorce two years back,” says the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire in a written statement.
The police spokesperson added that a suicide case has been opened up at Entebbe Police Station.
Crow reportedly had a history of depression and taking drugs, and that he took a lot of alcohol on the eve of his death.
Whisper Eye, an online publication, reported yesterday that the deceased’s parents allowed him to stay in Uganda and train as a volunteer animal caretaker because he was living a solitary life while in the US.
When asked about the claims, the assistant CID officer at Entebbe Police Station, Richard Anvuko, said: “We are still receiving information to clarify and back up those claims of alcoholism and depression.”
UWEC spokesperson Isaac Mujaasi said the deceased was in a jovial mood and shared light moments with a friend in the centre’s restaurant on the eve of his death.
The burden of depression and other mental health conditions is on the rise globally. A World Health Assembly resolution passed in May 2013 called for a comprehensive, coordinated response to mental disorders at country level.

President Yoweri Museveni announced last week that he will be recalling, arming and deploying these reserves as LDU’s in all villages in Kampala and Wakiso, with permission to shoot on site especially armed murderers.
The president described this as the “Luweero method,” which he said will cost Shs. 57Billion and will last about one year.
Speaking to press in Mbarara on Wednesday, Minister Kahinda said he was unsure about the effectiveness of this method.
“I don’t want to say it will not help… but these kinds of murders are not something you can prevent,” he said.
“If they don’t murder Kirumira they will murder Otafiire and if not me they will come for you.”
A more effective way, Otafiire said, is trying to detect such crimes before they happen.
He believes that installing CCTV cameras and improving police technology will significantly reduce these crimes.
“What is very important is to have information about who is doing it,” he said.
Instead of arming the LDUs, Otafiire says they should be used to gather intelligence on the criminals.
President Museveni said this measure of arming LDUs is temporary and will be phased out once the city CCTV cameras are fully installed.

In Ibanda/Kiruhura—
Police in Kanoni Sub County in Kiruhura district are investigation circumstances under which an un identified man was brutally murdered and his head chopped off. The body was discovered along the Ibanda –Kazo road on Thursday.
The Kanoni Goborora Internal Security Officer (GISO) Keneth Muhozi told www.mknewslink.com yesterday while at the scene of murder that unknown people killed the man suspected to be in his 40s and dumped the body on the roadside from where it was found in a pool of blood.
Muhozi added that the killers cut off the deceased’s head and took it leaving the trunk at the scene.
The GISO suspects that the body of the deceased might have been killed from somewhere else either in Ibanda, Kamwenge, Mbarara, Bushenyi and Lyantonde, transported at night in a vehicle and dumped it at Nyabiherere 11 cell in Kanoni sub county.
The LC 1 chairperson of Nyabiherere 11 cell, Ms Juliet Nakahima said that this is the third body of unknown people dumped at the same scene in a period of six months.
She also raised concern with the rate at which people are being murdered in Kanoni Sub County.
She noted that some of these slain people are carried in vehicles by hired serial killers who take the bodies and dump them in places where they could not be identified by the residents.
The body was taken to Ruhoko Health center 1V in Ibanda district pending to be yet identified by relatives.
