Two security guards attached to Legit private security company in Ibanda have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Brian Barigye , 33, the son of Professor Godfrey Barigye, a long-serving academic at Kabale University and University of Saint Joseph Nyamitanga.

The suspects, Marvin Nabimanya, 17, and Samuel Amutuhaire, 22, were apprehended following the Easter sunday incident in Karugangama, a suburb of mbarara city.

According to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, the shooting occurred when Barigye and his friends, returning from a video hall, confronted the security guards, questioning their presence in the area, an altercation during which Nabimanya allegedly fired a shot, severely injuring Barigye’s thigh.

Nabimanya fled the scene but was later apprehended.

Kasasira said that police recovered a firearm marked UG. PSO 564211869-16588 along with three rounds of ammunition on April 22.

Professor Barigye has accused Legit security company of attempting to conceal the incident, expressing deep concern that no representatives from the company have contacted the family.

He also claimed the guards had become a menace to the community, often seen loitering with firearms, and demanded that authorities ensure justice is served.

Barigye was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment.

Halson Kagule the hospital publicist confirmed that the patient was stabilized in the accident and emergency unit before undergoing surgery to remove the bullet and repair the damage.
