Police in Ibanda district have arrested a 26 year old woman who was working as a Bar cashier for allegedly embezzling shs. 605,000= belonging to her employer.
Ms Rose Mary Ankunda was accused for embezzling and forgery the money which belonged to Union Bar and lodge ,Katooma in Ibanda town council. After Ankunda found the money missing from the safe she decided to go into hiding in Mbarara municipality for security reasons after leaning that some police men were looking for her.
Other items found missing included one blanket the property for the Union Bar and Lodge Katooma. The owner of the Union Bar and Lodge belongs to Mr. Frank Ndebeesa of Katooma cell in Ibanda town council. Mr. Ndebeesa after finding his money and some property missing, he reported the matter to Police who started making a hunt till Ankunda was apprehended and produced to court.
Police working on tip of other people Ms. Ankunda, the suspect was arrested on 1.5.2016 while in Mbarara district. She was transferred to Ibanda district to answer the charges of theft.
Appealing in Court in Ibanda district yesterday ,which was presided over by Grade one Magistrate Mr. Gibbs Bugingo,the suspect testified that has no knowledge of embezzling the money in question, but accepted that she took only the blanket as her boss failed to honour her claims for the days worked for.
The grade one magistrate court in Ibanda district remanded Ankunda to Nyabuhikye Government prisons till 27.6.2016 when she will appear again in court.
