IN MBARARA—

The Commissioner of equity and rights in the ministry of gender, Labour and social development is urging the government to provide equal opportunities and give affirmative action to vulnerable groups in the policy making, programming, and regulatory process in the country.

Bernard Mujuni said that most vulnerable groups that include the elderly, the Women, the youth and people living with HIV/Aids and many others have been left out in implementation of government programs.

He is now calling on members of the public to be active in submitting their complaints to the institutions in charge of enforcing so that their grievances are resolved especially those who are discriminated, marginalized and isolated so that they are provided equal rights and freedom from discrimination.

Mujuni was speaking during a regional workshop held at Rwizi Arch Hotel Mbarara that involved stakeholders from five districts of Bushenyi, Ibanda, Insingiro, Kiruhura, Ntungamo and Mbarara with the purpose to review the national equal opportunities policy that the government uses to operationalize equal opportunities and affirmative action for all vulnerable and marginalized groups in this country.
