The Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Stanley Ntagali has
expressed dismay over people who have heartless continued to grab land
and property of the poor people.

violence which he said are fueled by couples who are not faithful and
end up cheating on their spouses.

IN MBARARA—-

The business companies operating under the Mbarara industrial park have ran to Mbarara RDC over increased power disconnections by power distribution body UMEME.

Over 30 company owners called in the RDC Capt. Martha Asiimwe and UMEME officials to explain why the power bills keep on hiking without providing bills to them and end up disconnecting them.

In the meeting held and the industrial park yesterday, Fred Kimbareba chairman SOMAS industry said they are not sure why UMEME keeps on disconnecting power when they don’t come to read their meters but at the end of the month they bring exaggerated bills to the customers operating in the industrial park operating under the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).

In his response Tomas Tondo UMEME manager Mbarara said most of the companies are known of defaulting and that he will not be lenient to them but only disconnecting them will be a solution if they can’t pay the bills.

In her remarks the RDC Martha warned power distributing company UMEME not to play around with private companies because they generate a lot of taxes to the government therefore calls upon UMEME to always be lenient to these growing small scale industries.

RDC Martha however appealed to these companies operating under UIA to always clear UMEME bills to avoid inconveniences as electricity is not free in the country.

IN RUKUNGIRI—
MINISTER KAHINDA OTAFIRE WHO CLASHED WITH MP KAGINDA IN RUKUNGIRI YESTERDAY

The consecration and enthronement of Rev. canon  Benon magezi as the
fifth  bishop of north kigezi  diocese turned into a political battle
ground when  the minister of constitutional affairs   Rtd. Major
General Saverino Kahinda otafire and Roland Kaginda mugume exchanged
bitter words over the retirement  of President Yoweri kaguta Museveni.

MP LAWRAND KAGINDA WHO TOLD OFF KAHINDA OTAFIRE THAT MUSEVENI NEEDS COPY WHAT THE BISHOPS DO BY HANDING OVER POWER PEACEFULLY AND TIMELY. HE [MUSEVENI] SHOULD DO SO SOONEST

It all begun when Kaginda the Rukungiri municipality MP who is also the
opposition deputy chief whip in parliament said that President Yoweri
kaguta Museveni needs to emulate the church that has peaceful handover
of leadership to other leaders of the this country Uganda.

“ am happy as the member of this area to have witnessed the peaceful
hand over of  bishop Tusingwire  to bishop  Benon tugume  as I
was siting behind the generals I saw them whispering I don’t know what
they were saying  but I ask them to tell  there boss president
Museveni also to retire like  bishop Tusingwire  “ MP Kaginda said
Kaginda.

Bishop MAGEZI AND COLLEAGUE AT THE FUNCTION

This statement didn’t go down well with Kahinda otafire who had
represented president Museveni at the function as he retaliated  by
saying that the bishops  have retired because the constitution  of the
church commands them to do so but as for the NRM government  they have
always found the constitution  still wanting that’s why they have not
done so saying that the opposition needs  to be patient and wait as
time  for handover comes. They are ready to do so as they will handover
power when they lose elections or if the get to 75 years as per the
constitution of Uganda commands.

The bishops retire as per the order of the constitution   of the
church of Uganda  but as President Museveni he is still here as the
constitution  of Uganda still favors him, he will leave power saying
that when occasion  comes as when the constitution still doesn’t favor
them they will or if else.

“We are still here as when the occasion of living comes we shall leave
as even though you might be good time when you have to leave   “.
Said General Kahinda.

He also said that he was dismayed by the people of Rujumbura for
voting out Rtd. Major General Jim Muhwezi by voting in Fred
Turyamuhweza of FDC saying that all the good things that muhwezi and
NRM had done for them was bad. even though Dr
Kizza Besigye is there son but they should remember the good things
that the NRM government and president Museveni has done for them as
the people of Rukungiri.

General Kahinda also warned that people of Rukungiri against engaging
in sectarian tendencies saying due to the sectarian tendencies that
why they went to the bush to fight bad governments that were at the
time promoting them as he asked the church leaders to separate
politics from God’s work.

Bishop Benon Tugume succeeded bishop tugume-tusingwire who has been at
the helm of the diocese for the last six years.

The mitooma district national resistance movement (NRM) chairperson Mr. Wiberforce Muhangi Byaboneka  has said that  corruption has increased in the district because of poor governance by district leaders.

He said that they have received complaints from big offices at the district where senior officers at the district ask people money to give them services.

“We have got information where some senior civil servants ask people money to give them services and yet they are paid by government, we are making investigations and they may end up being taken to court”

However the mitooma district NRM registrar  Esaul Nuwagira attributed corruption to poor political leaders.

He says top political leaders have resorted to fighting each other rather than working for the people who voted for them.

One of the mitooma district chairman from Kashenshero sub-county stressing a point

“Its true there are corrupt civil servants in the district but political leaders who are supposed to  supervise them  are fighting each other and we may end up losing district dignity” Nuwagira said

There have been grievances between former Mp Ruhinda Maj. Gen Kahinda otafiire and the district chairman Benon Karyaija which has resulted to councilors moving a motion to censure their chairman.

The minister of local government Col. Tom Butiime set up a tribunal aimed at hearing and passing judgment on the claims by district councilors led by Godwin Muzoora[mutara sub-county council].

The tribunal led by justice David Matovu was supposed to resume work from Christmas break tomorrow Jan. 10, 2016 but has been postponed to unknown date.

IN KABALE—-

Former FDC presidential candidate Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has blasted the Kabale chief magistrate for allowing the state to use his court to subvert justice.

Besigye’s accusation follows a court decision in which the chief magistrate adjourning the case where the former president together with other opposition leaders are charged with several offences. The case has been adjourned  to 6th march 2017.

His worship Kagonde Ntende Moses adjourned the case after state prosecutor Gloria Inzikuru asked court to give her one more chance to present two more witnesses who are still out of the country to come and give evidence against the accused persons.

In his ruling chief magistrate said his court has the duty of balancing rights of accused persons and that of state adding that without narrating the earlier reasons that have always led to several adjournments in the matter, saying it is within the interest of justice to accord prosecution the very last adjournment on the matter in order to invite more witnesses

In reaction Besigye told journalists that it’s very sad that the magistrate has allowed his court to be used to subvert justice and vowed never to go back to kabale.

Besigye who is accused of inciting violence and malicious damage said the excuses being given by the  prosecution are flimsy since they failed to show any evidence that they indeed they had summoned the said witnesses adding that in the last court session that this would be the last day to close prosecution on the matter

He said the state motive is to use the case as a tool of harass and repress him but not to serve any purpose in the interest of justice which must be quick and fair.

The Minister for Education and Sports Hon Janet Kataha Museveni has requested parents to always be responsible towards their children’s well being.

She was speaking at the closure of the youth challenge week that started on 10th Jan 2017 the function that took place at st peter and Paul primary school south division fort portal municipality Kabarole district yesterday.

Janet with great concern noted that most children tend to be spoilt in their young ages where it’s always not simple to decide for themselves and hence accepting which ever proposal comes to them.

She appealed to parents to always stop their children from moving any how especially at night attending clubs as most of them end up falling in love with sugar daddies in clubs, on their way back and others end up being raped thus early pregnancies hence their future being spoilt.

Janet however said that not only does corruption exist in offices but also exists in our homes, schools, markets especially to such people who have intrugious intensions to ruin the young generation.

The Member of Parliament for fort portal municipality Hon Alex Ruhunda urged the youth to stop focusing their eyes on president Museveni but should start up some small income generating projects that can help to deal away with poverty in our country.

Ruhunda said it’s the responsibility for everybody to fight poverty in the country not the president only and so people should be creative enough if they are to yield some thing from their sweat.

The member for Bunyangabo County in Kabarole district who also doubles as the minister for defence and veterans said people should desist from anything that can split them noting that unity and peace is a way to success in life.
