Rukiga County Member of Parliament Herbert Kabafunzaki on Friday clashed with the Rukiga District Male Youth Councillor Micheal Mbareeba Kwarikunda over the Presidential initiative on Wealth and job Creation (Emyooga) in front of the State Minister for Micro-finance Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo.

“Emyooga” is a Rukiga/Runyankole word literally translated as “Skills” and it is a Presidential initiative designed to empower Ugandans economically with special skills.

The drama started when Mbareeba accused some politicians of politicizing government project and without mentioning any names, said that some politicians in Rukiga District had already started claiming ownership of the Emyooga project, yet according to him it was meant to benefit all Ugandans regardless of their political affiliation.

“I want to thank the Honorable Minister for implementing this government program that will help all people but some politicians in Rukiga have been going around on radio stations saying that they are the ones that are bringing the project and only invited the Minister to Launch it “. Mbareba said.

However, this did not go well with Herbert Kabafunzaki who was present and shot back saying it was morally and legally right for him to talk about the project since it was an initiative of the ruling NRM party to which he scribes.

Hon Kabafunzaki accused Councillor Mbareeba  of politicizing a government project simply because he (Mbareeba) belongs to the opposition side.

“Honourable minister some leaders in Rukiga don’t want us to talk about NRM achievements as most of them are in opposition” Kabafunzaki said.

Minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo however warned Rukiga District Leaders against politicizing the “Emyooga” project as it’s a government Project and no politician should start confusing the people.

He said that it was unfortunate that some political leaders had continued to put forward their political agendas at the expense of their voters who are living in poverty.

Kyeyune said that Government will only give funding to groups of skilled men and women organized in SACCOs at constituency level and the beneficiaries include Mechanics, Saloon Operators, Boda Boda Riders, Taxi Drivers and Journalists among others.

The Ministry of Microfinance has already received the funds and each SACCO would receive Ugx 30 million as seed capital.

In an telephone exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com  managing editor today morning 1st July 2020 ,the bishop noted that he has held several meetings at the hospital and he has big plans for the facility.

According to sources, the health facility is really in a poor state that it cannot even treat malaria patient.

www.mknewslink.com

In Bushenyi—

As we count 100 days of the lock down in Uganda, social media and Television have been cited as the leading factor on child moral decay, due to lack of supervision and proper regulation by parents.

Faith Amanya Betega, the Bushenyi district probation and social welfare officer while speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter on Tuesday at her office in Bushenyi, appealed to parents regulate and limit children social media exposure and television timing.

She says that children have adopted a lot of evil deeds from social media and television during this lock down and attributed this to negligence by parents.

She added that cases of defilement, incest and other forms of child abuse are on a rampage and this has created a vacuum in families leading to rampant cases of gender based violence in the district. She says that her office receives over six gender based cases daily which according to her is worrying.

She thus called upon parents to always sit and harmonize family issues to avoid violence that may lead to family break ups and death to some extent.

She also advised children to concentrate on domestic chores and do away with social media and Television.

MPS TO SQUEEZE GOVERNMENT OVER UN FULFILLED PLEDGES ON KABALE REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL

In Kabale—

Members of Parliamentary on the Committee on Government Assurances have been shocked by the sorry state of Kabale regional referral hospital in Kabale district during their Kigezi sub region visit.

Kabale regional referral hospital which is one of select hospitals taking care of COVID 19 patients is currently operating with very poor isolation room, Intensive Care Unit and inadequate transport means which have triggered poor response in a fight against the spread of Corona virus in kigezi region hence putting lives of Ugandans at a greater risk.

On Tuesday 30th June 2020, Members of Parliament on the Committee on Government Assurances led by the Nakawa division MP Micheal Kabaziguruka visited the hospital to inspect the assurances, promises and undertakings made by the government to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in response to the Corona virus pandemic.

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus in Uganda, Kabale regional Referral Hospital has accommodated 10 Covid 19 positive cases of which only 6 are currently active.

The Kajara constituency Member of Parliament Michael Timuzigu Kamugisha who was part of the Committee wondered how the government has given ambulances and protective gears like masks to other districts and forgotten districts in Kigezi region that border other high risk countries like Rwanda and Congo.

The Kiryandongo district Woman Member of Parliament Helen Kahunda asked the government to be mindful on the lives and welfare of health workers especially those handling Corona virus related patients through providing them motivation in form of allowances and providing them with protective gears.

Kabaziguruka promised to present the challenges to the relevant authorities and to Parliament for debate and come up with possible solutions.

Speaking to our reporter at kabale regional referral hospital, the hospital director Dr. Sophie Namasopo said that the hospital lacks a well purposed isolation room and Intensive Care Unit adding that the current ICU and isolation room at the facility are temporary and substandard which affects thorough response to COVID-19.

Dr. Namasopo further added that the hospital is faced with inadequate personal protective equipment which exposes the lives of the Health workers at the facility to the risks of acquiring Coronavirus.

The Kabale acting District Health officer Alfred Besigensi also said that the 165 million the district received from the government as Coronavirus response fund became inadequate and could not even help match the district Coronavirus expenses for three months.

Besigensi said that the district is currently surviving on handouts from well-wishers in the district thus becoming a big hindrance in the fight against COVID 19 in the district. He also noted that the district has no other designated Quarantine center if schools could be allowed to reopen since all Coronavirus suspects in the district are quarantined at Kabale school of Compressive nursing.
