Ministry of energy and mineral development has deployed police in Buhweju district to stop illegal gold mining practices in the area.

Commissioner in charge of mineral department Alaba Jessica says the move will force all artisanal gold miners to be licenced and start paying revenue to government.

She warned that government is ready to close their operations in case artisanals who are said to have graduated to small scale gold miners fail to operate within the legal mining framework.

She further said that energy and mineral development ministry will undertake biometric registration and profiling of all artisanal mining sites in the country to discourage cases of immigration of artisans.

Alaba noted that environment has seriously been degraded in gold deposits areas within Buhweju district and that the situation requires a lot of resources for restoration and filling the gaping holes that are posing high risks to animals and people adding that such funds must be realised from the same sector.

The commissioner together with mineral police protection officials were assessing the effects gold mining has caused in Buwheju district and the surrounding areas.

Western region chairperson of artisanal gold miners Beinomugisha Desusdedit says more than 20.000 people involved in gold mining business in Buhweju district are ready to comply to governments mineral mining standards so long as government recognizes their contribution to the development of the mining sector in the country.

Keigomba Jessica the head of mineral police protection unit assured the artsanals that police will not harass and arrest them but rather ensure compliance of mining guidelines so as to mitigate effects of environment. She also urged them to protect women and children from the mining hazards.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Manchester City spoiled and humiliated Chelsea on Sunday as the Citizens grabbed a 2-0 victory from the Blues.

The thirty point gap between last season’s English Premier League champions and FA Cup winners was apparent Sunday afternoon as Manchester City laid down a marker for their title defense with a clinical 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield.

Such was the gulf in class, the score line flattered Chelsea. Had two-goal hero Sergio Aguero not left one of his shooting boots home, new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri could have been embarrassed on his competitive debut. Only Aguero’s profligacy and Willy Caballero’s brilliant shot stopping prevented a cricket score.

Pep Guardiola’s trailblazers set a plethora of records in winning the 2017/18 title, registering the most wins, most goals scored and the highest points tally in Premiership history and on the evidence of their Wembley display, they will take some beating.

Aguero had already tested Chelsea’s back four, playing in an unfamiliar 4-3-3 formation when he found space and time to evade Antonio Rudiger’s timid challenge and shoot past Argentina team mate Caballero. Time check was 13 minutes.

Fielding a side without talismanic pair Eden Hazard and Ngolo Kante, Chelsea struggled to assert themselves. The West Londoners’ best chance came midway through the first half when fast and rising teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi, shot straight at Claudio Bravo after wriggling free from City right back Kyle Walker’s close attention.

Any hope Chelsea would erase a 0-1 first half deficit were wiped out on 58 minutes when Aguero latched onto a well weighted through ball past Chelsea’s struggling central defensive pair to fire home a rasper.

The goal set the tone for the rest of the half, with the game mostly one way traffic onto Chelsea’s goal.

Premier League champions City begin their title defense by squaring off with Arsenal.

Maurizzio Sarri meets Belgian pair Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, as well as World Cup winners Kante and Olivier Giroud at Stamford Bridge on Monday hoping to iron out their futures ahead of next weekend’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

The newly elected chairmen LC two and ones from Kagango division Sheema municipality were yesterday advised to go back to school to learn how to read and write .

Sheema municipal town clerk requested the new chairmen never to expose Government’s failures to public thus asking them to go back to school as early as possible.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:

Miss Uganda 2009 winner Maria Namiiro to go down in history as the most controversial winner of the beauty pageant ever! Roundly described as a ‘disappointment’, Miss Uganda 2009 was one that left a very bad taste.

According to reports, Maria Namiiro had been lined for the crown right from the start of the contest. She was the reigning Miss Uganda UK whose franchise holder Joyce Church was also the organiser of Miss Uganda beauty pageant.

Maria was yet again crowned by the same faces that judged her at Miss Uganda UK contest.

While residing in UK, it was very obvious that she would not be anywhere close to represent the country.

Also, she wouldn’t qualify to contest for Miss World as Miss Uganda UK so participating in Miss Uganda in Kampala was her best chance and with the two events organised by the same person, she had a way!

To further cement the allegations, after being crowned winner, she won a month-long trip to UK (her residence).

Ellah rose to fame in 2013 when she was crowned Miss Uganda. She later extended her minutes of fame when she took part in Big Brother in 2014. They, however, split after developing misunderstandings they failed to resolve. Ellah has since been dating a Nigerian guy whose name we are yet to know.

As Uganda commemorates world breast feeding week that is always the first week of August, breast feeding mothers have been urged to breast feed their children with in an interval of three times in a period of 8-12 hours.

Speaking to www.mknewslink.com this afternoon, Nancy Nyamweya the nutrition focal person Bushenyi said that effective breast feeding helps the child to fight malnutrition and other infections as it contains all food nutrients.

She noted that once a child is well fed right away from after conceiving, then it is well breast fed up to two years, this child is at low risks of suffering from nutrition disorders.

A group of residents in Igayaza Town Council, Kakumiro District have stormed the office of the district Internal Security Officer (DISO) demanding to know the whereabouts of two people who were arrested by security operatives for allegedly plotting a rebellion against the government of Rwanda.

Ali Ahimbisibwe a retired UPDF officer, who is the father to Niwamanya said that he teamed up with other concerned residents and went to the DISO’s office to find out the whereabouts of his son but were referred to ISO offices in Kampala.

He said that when they travelled to Kampala, they were told to go back to Kakumiro and find out the whereabouts of their relatives from the DISO.

‘‘How can my son engage in rebel activities yet I am the one who works with security? I want the DISO to tell us where these people are being held,” Ahimbisibwe said.

However, the DISO, Edward Byarugaba, did not give them attention and locked himself in his office for about six hours. He was later rescued by police who took him to Kakumiro Police Station.

The Kakumiro Resident District Commissioner, Ms Mary Lule Senkungu faulted the security operatives for carrying out such arrests without informing the district police and other relevant security officials in the district.
