BY KAGUTA JOEL IN KASESE-The community in Kasese district has been challenged not to
depend on political leaders only in settling all their domestic affairs.
The challenge was sounded yesterday by the Chief Executive Officer
Foundation for Urban and Rural Advancement (FURA) Mr. Rauben Mbauta
while officiating at a fundraising drive at Misika Church of Uganda
in Kogere parish.
He warned the people against the habit of expecting financial support from their political leaders especially the Members of Parliament who he said,  have a role of making laws and lobbying for
their respective constituencies only.
Mbauta also advised the community members regardless of their
political ideologies to work closely with their church, political and
civic leaders to revive peace and unity among the different categories
of people as one way of bringing development.
He appealed to the parents to have self help projects and focus much on
educating their children for the bright future.
He asked the people to embrace government programmes so that they may
benefit more from them and get out of poverty.Mbauta cited need for the people to engage in commercial agriculture alongside reviving the kitchen gardens as one way of improving their
nutrition.
The Lay reader, Mr. Jonathan Baluku Ntama pledged to spearhead the
campaign of kitchen gardens.
However, Ntama expressed fear of drought which he said had started
threatening the area.
