Lawyers of both Paul Kahiigi Turyamureeba and Jafari Basajabalaba yesterday afternoon met at Mbarara High court in the first phase of their case which is mediation- it means before hearing of the case takes shape, the two parties should agree and the petitioner[Kahiigi] drops the case but this never happened because Kahiigi refused saying his case is for the people of Bushenyi whom their victory was stolen in broad day light therefore he cannot accept to pull out at this stage or later.
The chief mediator Mr.H.K Mugerwa accepted Kahiigi’s reason of refusal to drop the case and scheduled conferencing on Tuesday next week and on that day they will agree on when the case will commence hearing and justice Damalie Lwanga will be presiding over this case.
In the mediation meeting, Kahiigi was represented by Bwiruka Richard of Kahwa-Kafuuzi and Bwiruka and co-advocates and then Jafari was represented by Paul Tusubira of Paul Tusubira and co-advocates and Alexander Kibandama.
The two men Kahiigi and Jafari had contested for Bushenyi district chairmanship in Feb 2016 elections LCV elections and according to kahiigi, Jafari’s younger brother tycoon Hassan Basajabalaba bribed, intimidated and stole his votes.
Hassan is the district NRM chairman for Bushenyi and according to Kahiigi who is for FDC party says Hassan used cash, other crude methods and all what it takes to make sure his un popular brother in Bushenyi district constituency, Jafari Basajabalaba wins.
