Police in Kanungu District are investigating a case of suspected murder by assault following the death of a 63-year-old man, Bagambe Politazio, a resident of Katate Cell, Western Ward, Kanungu Town Council.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly www.mknewslinkcom that the incident occurred on April 16, 2025, at around 4:00 PM, when the deceased, allegedly intoxicated, was returning home from Kanungu town. He reportedly fell into a bean garden belonging to Buradina Baguma, a female resident of the same area. Angered by the damage to her crops, Baguma allegedly struck the deceased with a stick.
Despite managing to walk home, Bagambe began experiencing chest and stomach pains, which worsened over the next few days. On April 22, 2025, while preparing to seek medical attention, he passed away.
The body was taken to Katate Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, and the suspect, Burandina Baguma, has since been arrested to aid with ongoing police investigations.
The case is currently under active inquiry by authorities in Kanungu.
