4 NETTED OVER PDM FUND THEFT IN KIRYANDONGO TOWN COUNCIL

Four individuals, including a town agent have been detained in connection with the theft of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in Kiryandongo Town Council.
The suspects allegedly conspired to steal approximately Shs1 million from the funds meant for poor people.
The suspects were identified as Juliet Katusabe, Kiryandongo Town Council Northern Ward town agent, Anguliga Sacco leader Edward Katusiime, PDM enterprise leader from Mukonogum cell and Mary Atim secretary under Kiryandongo district production department all arrested yesterday. 22-4 -2025 in their respective residences.
Its alleged that Mary Atim used the National Identification Cards of Mrs. Katusiime Oliva, a resident of Runyanya village, to register and withdraw funds from the PDM program.
The theft was discovered after Mrs. Katusiime Oliva reported that her phone, SIM card, and National Identification Card photocopies were used without her consent.
This however prompted the Assistant RDC Kiryandongo District, Mr. Mbabazi Sam, and Deputy RDC Akakwetereho Jonathan to launch an investigation, leading to the arrest of the four suspects.
Mr. Mbabazi asked the public to reach his office and register all their complain about PDM
Kiryandongo Town Council Clerk, Ms Tusabe Lydia, condemned the act which involved some of her staff and emphasized that the law should take its course.
Deputy RDC Jonathan Akakwetereho stressed that the poor people should benefit from the PDM program and that those found guilty must face the law.
Resident District Commissioner Mr Dan Muganga ordered for the arrest of anyone involved in stealing money from the poor.
Mr. Musa Matende a resident of kiryandongo northern ward, appreciated the arrests, saying it would help reduce complaints about PDM fund mismanagement.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon according to report from kiryandongo police station as investigations are going on since there is suspect of more cases from the beneficiaries.
This incident highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the management of PDM funds.
By press time, the suspects were held at Kiryandongo central police station.
