Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the mysterious death of an unidentified man, believed to be between 27 and 30 years old, whose body was discovered in a trench.
According to police, the body was found in a water-filled trench at Nyangande Cell, Mwanjari Ward, in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, along Katuna at around 7:00 a.m. on April 14, 2025, by the residents who promptly alerted Kabale Central Police Station.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the scene was visited, processed, and documented by the district Criminal Investigations Department (CID) team. The body was then retrieved and transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
ASP Maate noted that the body bore fresh bruises on the face and neck, indicating possible foul play.
He added that a sniffer dog was deployed at the scene, but it failed to provide any helpful leads.
Efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing. Maate urged members of the public with missing relatives to visit the hospital mortuary to assist in identification and help ensure the body is accorded a dignified burial.
He further stated that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still underway.
