Former minister of ethics and integrity Hon Miria Matembe has reviled that woman emancipation was started by President Yoweri but rather started during Amin, Obote 11 and Lutwa governments.

She noted that only Museven found existing structures and enhanced them. Hon Matembe made these remarks at lake view hotel over the weekend in an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com editor and reporter.

Hon Matembe said that she registered Action for Development in 1985 as a company together with Joice Mpanga, Rhoda Karema and the Late Mirembe because they were tired of being raped and harassed by police of Obote and Amin. Still they could not be allowed to register ACOFORD as an association because it was not allowed.

Matembe said that Action for Development was started after 1985 Nairobi conference the first women conference to be held in African continent and women in Uganda went with Miria Obote but unfortunately Miria Obote did not return with them because Obote’s government was overthrown By Tito Okello Rutwa when they were in conference.

Hon. Matembe noted that women emancipation started back sliding after she started opposing president Museven in 2003 when she was minister together with Bidandi Sali and Eliya Kategaya because they were supporting presidential term limits that were put in the 1995 Uganda National constitution and however were successfully removed from the constitution by parliament in 2005.

Matembe said that after they even lost their ministerial position after opposing president Museveni not tamper with the constitution of Uganda. Hwever around after one year late Kategaya went to president Museveni and NRM. Bidandi Ssali   started his own party ([PPP) and stood as president in 2011 and Miria Matembe is still opposing president Museveni through women activism.
