KABALE BAN ON BODA CYCLIST OPERATIONS PASSED MID-NIGHT: CIVIL SOCIETY JOINS TO OPPOSE IT

IN KABALE—-
Some locals in Kabale district who use Boda-Bodas at night are up in
arms with security committee for banning motorcycles from operating
past mid night claiming that it has inconvenienced their businesses.
On 02nd June 2016, Security authorities Kabale district banned, with
immediate effect, the movement of Boda-Boda after mid night in order
to reduce on crime.
The coordinator of Kick Corruption out of Kigezi Robert Byamugisha
Kakuru says that he has been using Boda-Boda to carry his luggage
whenever he arrives in the town past midnight.
He says that since the ban was set it affected his businesses because
he fears to transport his luggage without convenient transport means.
He however suggests that since banning Boda-Bodas is not the remedy,
authorities should seat with stakeholders to get the solution.

Bosco Byamugisha from central division Kabale municipality also
Boda-Boda user says that despite the theft reasons raised by security
authorities, Boda-Boda leadership needs to chant a way forward because
the ban is indirectly affecting consumers of their service. He adds
that he used to go to night clubs but he has opted to forego fearing
to be arrested.

The Kabale district police commander Dickens Bindeeba say that, since
they arrested habitual criminals, security officials will seat soon
and set new guidelines for Boda-Bodas who operate at night and they
will be allowed to operate again.
