KIHIIHI UPDF SOLDIER COLD BLOOD MURDER: CONVICT SENTENCED TO 90 YEARS IN PRISON

Court martial chaired by Col.Mujuni Geoffrey has sentenced lance corporal Moses Katungwensi 90 years in jail on allegations of murder and attempted murder.

On April 21, 2016 lance corporal Katungwensi attached to 307 Brigade Mburamaizi barracks killed two soldiers, six civilians and injured 3 (Tumuheirwe Dickson, Barekye Emmanuel,Twongeirwe Frank).

The court martial Chairperson Col. Mujuni Geoffrey said the court has proved beyond reasonable doubt that accused person participated in unlawful killings due to several findings and evidence proved by witnesses which defence did not object.

It is believed that on February 17, 2016 basing on the records from Armour, the accused registered an AK47 UPDF 48002482 with 120 rounds which he never returned and the same gun was brought in court by police as evidence.

The accused was found guilty of murder and sentenced 60 years in Government prison and also found guilty on the change of attempted murder and sentenced 30 years.

He added that the sentence should be served concurrently however the accused has the right to appeal within 14 days.

Kanungu District L.C.V Chairperson, Mrs. Josephine Kasya, said the punishment was fair and requested for a nearby prison to confirm the detention of the accused.

She also urged people to remain calm especially affected families and promised negotiations with government for compensation.
