Rwenzururu king wensly Mumbere warning gov’t to stop killing, arresting his Royal guards
why the Kingdom Royal Guards are being killed, hunted and arrested
and framed to be attackers of government institutions.
At a press briefing yesterday at the Kingdom administration offices in
Kasese town, the Rwenzururu Spokesperson, Clarence Bwambale Mumbahya
said that some Royal Guards were even being arrested from their homes
and others on their way to their homes.
This follows the death of a Kingdom Royal Guard, Julius Masereka
commonly known as Manda who was allegedly gunned down by the police on
4th June in what police described as an attack to the police patrol in
Bigando village in Kitswamba sub-county in Busongora
According to Mumbahya, Masereka and his other 6 counterparts were on
Friday given a pass leave to go and find school fees for their
children. He said that investigations were under way to know how they
met police and shot one as police arrested another one.
He said that the Kingdom calls for respect of the blood of the people
in Rwenzori region regardless of their tribes and political
affiliations warning some individuals with selfish interests to stop
their acts.
Mumbahya also refuted claims that some Rwenzururu Royals guards had
been arrested in Bundibugyo district donned in Uganda People Defense
Forces attires.
He also blamed the press for reporting biased stories.
The West Regional Police Commander, ASP, Deo Obura told the press
separately that intelligence reports had obtained an anonymous letter
dropped in Bigando and that on 4th June, police was informed that some
people had been cited in a house of one of the Royal Guards but that
when police wanted to find out someone came out and stabbed a police
of in the neck.
This prompted police to shot one Masereka in defense.
At least 6 Royal Guards have been gunned down and others arrested
since the post-election violence in the region.
