National water and Sewerage Corporation managing director and staff have resolved to pilot pre-paid meters in Rubirizi district western Uganda after numerous complaints by residents that national water was overcharging them.
This was reached at during a meeting of national water staff and the outgoing minister of water and environment Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu and Dr.Eng.Silver Mugisha at Nyakasharu play ground yesterday in Rubirinzi district.
This expensive decision was decided upon after Nyakasharu residents became hostile to the managing director, minister Kamuntu and all national water staff that they were being over charged by the best performing government Parastatal. However, area manager Rubirizi Bob Micheal told www.mknewslink.com editor that they were not at all overcharging or cheating any Rubirizi water customer.
The Banyaruguru tribe became hostile to the managing director and everyone who was at the function and hence the staff of national water decided to pilot meters particularly to Rubirizi to cool the situation
Dr.Eng.Silver Mugisha explained to the people of Rubirizi that he only collects 21million out of 25million and injects back 20million in staffs allowances, salaries, and minor faults.
The manager for national water greater Bushenyi area Mr.Francis Kateeba revealed that the parastital was going to spend 677million in transmission lines 2km,extension 12km to Botoha and Rutooto
Kateba also added that part of 676million will be spent in the treatment plant at Rutooto connection of electric power to the treatment plant, buying of water pumps re-sanding slow sand filters and installation of 250 water meters.
Mr.Kateeba added that other activities that will be done using 677 million are repair of various damages and connection of 30 public taps.
Other taps were opened in Rumuri and Kyambura and in those areas unlike Nyakasharu the residents were appreciative of the work done by the national water and asked the management to add them more taps.

Other local leaders attended the function the district chair person Rev.Fr Silver Agubashongwire, District vice chairman Mr. Mubangizi the entire cabinet of Agubasogwire and some councilors.
