Police in Rukungiri have arrested and detained three officials in Rukungiri Municipality for allegedly stealing 18 bags of beans provided under the Operation Wealth Creation program.
The arrested are, Clara Ahabwe; the assistant Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipality’s Western Division, together with the Division LC3 chairman; John Kasobera and Dickens Tibigambwa; the area community development officer.
Talking to the www.mknewslink.com reporter, Richard Emuna; the Rukungiri District Police Commander confirmed the arrest of the three, saying that police has commenced investigations into the matter.
The DPC says the suspects received 1620 kilograms of beans but only gave out only 1000 kilograms to the farmers in the division.
The arrest of the trio followed complaints from the beans beneficiaries to Peace Rugambwa; the regional coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation Program; who forwarded the matter to police.
Emuna says the suspects in detention will be arraigned before court and charged with theft.
