In Mitooma—

Mitooma district councilors who participated in impeaching their district chairman; Benon Karyeija are likely to lose their seats as plans to censure them are underway.

The councilor who is to be censured first is Godwin Muzoora who was the chief petitioner in impeaching Karyeija. Muzoora is the district councilor, representing Mutara sub-county in Mitooma district council.

Muzoora and his fellow councilors successfully censured Karyeija on July24, 2017 before he was re-instated by the high court on July28,

2017.

When Karyeija re-occupied his office on August 3, 2017 the councilors appealed to Court of Appeal, challenging his re-instatement.

They secured the court order stopping Karyeija from occupying his office until his general application in High court is heard. Karyeija had earlier petitioned the high court, challenging the Tribunal report which implicated him on three counts related to office abuse.

Now Karyeija’s supporters have staged a campaign aiming at removing the district councilors from the council.

So far a team of Karyeija’s supporters is moving from village to village in Mitooma district, collecting signatures to censure all the district councilors who participated in Karyeija’s impeachment.

Out of 27 councilors, only 4 did not attend the council meeting that censured Karyeija on July 24, 2017.

When mknewslink.com editor spoke to councilor Muzoora on phone, he noted that people collecting signatures have no grounds to base themselves and censure him and his colleagues.

“They don’t have grounds to censure us. Even in my sub-county of Mutara, four parishes have refused to sign those papers” Muzoora on phone from Kampala.
