Residents of Kabaruka, Kyegwisa and Kanyinampeeta in Bufunda ward Ibanda town council have been hit by a hail storm leaving most of crops and banana plantations destroyed . The rain which started yesterday 18/06/2016 a round 2.00 Pm and lasted for 40 minutes left the residents in shock and have asked for government intervention over the disaster that washed away their banana plantations, weak bridges have been also affected.
Following the long drought across the country which started in May this year ,the rain has caused a havoc. The residents who welcomed the blessing of rain as a sign to harvest their crops like Groundnuts were not happy because the rain left them in tears. because the expected famine and poverty.
The most affected locals include Ms.Glorai Byamukama Mr. Micheal Asiimwe, Mr.
Julius, Kategaya, Jackson Mpiirwe Advina, Turyasingura Faustine, Edith Kakombe Muzahura Gerald, Bamwebaze Valley, Tesigye Jimmy all from the three cells.
While talking to our reporter, Mr. Arinaitwe Serio Kakombe, who lost over
80 bunches of bananas worth million of shillings said all were blown off by the wind and asks Ministry of disaster to come to their rescue and and buy for them Posho to survive in near future.
The councilor for Bufunda ward who is also speaker of Ibanda town council Mr. Deus Warugaba toured the affected area and promised them to present it to the council and other government officials for special consideration.
Talking to our reporter, Mr. Warugaba said that, the residents have been surviving on bananas for both home consumption and commercial purposes and asked locals to be strong in that trying time.
