This follows the police announcement during the weekend which stated that they had received information about the planned launch of the youth protest vote, which was scheduled on Monday, 28 April 2025, at the NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule to block the launch of the party’s youth elections.
In a statement, police notified the organizers and concerned parties that the proposed event, along with any related activities, would not be permitted ordering them to comply with the directive.
While addressing media at NUP offices in central division Kisoro municipality, Tugume noted that today they had planned a meeting to organize election for youth and lc1s but they are waiting for what will come from the headquarters and security to permit them continue with their activities.
He also condemned the continuous abduction of political supporters of NUP by security personnel relating to abduction of the party’s president’s bodyguard Eddie Mutwe, who was abducted on Sunday evening in Kiwango village, Mukono District.
Tugume added that abduction is the way of intimidating the supporters of the party from progressing their targets ahead to secure victory in 2026 general elections. He warned that supporters should be mindful while in luxuries, on transport and while executing their duties in mobilizing people for the upcoming elections.
