Police in Kyema cell, Karujubu division, Masindi Municipality, have arrested a one Nyakato Jennifer, 35, a native of Bigando, for allegedly faking a miscarriage of twins.

According to Kyomya Jafari, the LC I Chairperson of Kyema cell, Nyakato had relocated to Kyema for work a few months prior and became involved in a relationship with Charles Balisiimaki, a local resident.

The couple began living together, but their relationship eventually ended, and Nyakato moved to Kampala, claiming to be staying with one of her relatives.

Last week, she allegedy contacted her former partner, requesting financial assistance to transport the remains of their allegedly miscarried twins. He sent her 200,000 shillings for transportation, and on Saturday evening, she arrived in Kyema with two coffins purportedly containing the twins’ remains.

However, suspicious relatives and residents attempted to inspect the coffins and discovered they were empty.

Nyakato fled immediately and was subsequently arrested on Sunday at a lodge in Kyema trading center and taken to Masindi Central Police Station.

Balisiimaki, the suspect’s former partner, condemned Nyakato’s actions, stating that she had shamed him before his parents, relatives, and the community.

Residents also criticized Nyakato’s behavior, labeling it a disgrace to society.

By press time, the suspect had been brought back to her former partner’s ancestral home by police in Kyema to exhume the empty coffins, which had been buried.
After the husband, his parents, and locals forgave her, the coffins were handed over to Nyakato to take them to her desired location.
