Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi
BY KWERONDA AMBROSE
Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, has urged parents to enroll their children in schools they can afford rather than opting for expensive ones, emphasizing that both provide the same quality of education
He made this call yesterday Tuesday during a confirmation service held at St. Mark’s Kakomo Church of Uganda in Kikungiri Archdeaconry, Diocese of Kigezi, where 84 confirmants were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
He noted that many people in Uganda are driven by competition, which has led some to lose their property. Bishop explained that when one parent enrolls their child in an expensive school, their neighbour may feel pressured to do the same, even if they cannot afford it, ultimately forcing them to sell their property to keep up.
Akanjuna stated that it is shameful for a parent to spend a lot of money on expensive schools, only to struggle to pay for further education after Senior Four. He added that some parents end up selling their property to afford school fees, leaving their children unable to continue their education beyond that level.
Bishop Akanjuna emphasized that parents should enroll their children in schools they can afford, even if it is a government school. He noted that a child’s future success whether becoming a minister, bishop, or any other leader depends on their education, not the cost of the school they attend.
