The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi has praised National Water and Sewerage Corporation Kisoro branch for upgrading Nkanka Water with new modern pipes worth 730 Million Ugandan Shillings.
Minister Mateke, who was not physically available at the time of the commissioning yesterday but later arrived in the evening said she was returning from the United Kingdom where she had gone to hand over power as the Chairperson for Common Wealth Youth Ministers.
Hon. Nyirabashitsi said the new technology at Nkanka water will help boost water supply. She noted that Government is prepared to help the residents of Nyakagezi cell in Rukondo Town Council get water.
She noted that the girl child will now have an opportunity to go to school early because access to water will become much easier.
Minister Mateke made the remarks during a function held at Ichumbi hotel in Kisoro Municipality.
Earlier in the day, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Sekandi accompanied by the Bufumbira South Member of Parliament Hon. Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda and other district leaders commissioned the new surface water pumps at Nkanka in Rukundo Town Council.
The leaders called on the communities to protect the infrastructure and keep the water safe because the entire Kisoro depends on Nkanka water Source.
Kisoro District Police Commander Richard Musisi said anyone who is caught destroying the machines at Nkanka will be arrested and handled by the law.
The Residents of Nyakagezi Cell commended the local leaders for their support and said they are happy that the NRM Government is doing a great job.
Ariho Peter, the area Manager of National Water Kisoro Branch said the new pumps will allow the plant to keep working even if the plant experiences some mechanical challenges.
He futhur said that the water to be supplied has now increased from 3 million liters per day to 5 million liters per day.
In attendance included several district councilors, the Nyarubuye LCIII chairperson Ernest Buchokori among others.
