The Kisoro district natural resource officer Mudanga Vincent has issued precautions to residents living in hilly areas and advised them on the current heavy rainfall.
He warns that the rainfall performance is expected to be enhanced to mid-November.
Speaking to our reporter, Mudanga Vincent said that there is the possibility of landslides and mudslides triggered by heavy rain in the high ranges. He advised residents in vulnerable areas like greater Bukimbiri, Kanaba, Murora, Nyarubuye, Busanza and other areas to be prepared for evacuation if the situation worsens. Byte……. Mudanga Vincent noted that according to Indian dipole, the current rain fall is likely to reach at more than 1,500 degree Celsius and lead to rising water level in rivers and flash floods in East African countries Uganda inclusive. He added that the current torrential rain fall is being caused by global warming due to climate changes because of human activities. Mr. Mudanga Vincent further advised residents to dig ditches and plant more trees that will catch the running water and prevent it from washing away their houses and crops. He noted Kisoro district local government supported by UNHCR through national forestry authority is giving out tree seedlings to residents. He advised residents to pick the seedlings from Kisoro local government and plant more trees to preserve the environment.Byte…..…..on planting trees…ends
