The former Minister of General duties in the office of the prime Minister and Senior Presidential
Advisor on Media and Public Affairs Mary Karooro Okurut has hailed the Ministry of Science and
Technology for picking special interests in Rukararwe workshop for Rural Development’s herbal
medicine.
The former Minister said this over the weekend while receiving guests from the above Ministry
accompanied by an American Professor Kanene.
The guests toured the Medicinal gardens at Rukararwe in Mazinga ward, Nyakabirizi division
,Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.
Former Minister Karooro told the media that line minister Musenero has visited Rukararwe twice as
well as officials from the World Health Organization in a bid to make the rich herbal area a center for
excellence in terms of herbal medicine.
Prof. Kanene who is highly ranked in the area of academics in American Universities asked the
Rukararwe coordinator Mr. Chris Mugasha the challenges faced by the herbal center and how they
can be solved.
Rukararwe was started in late 1996 by the late Amb. Samson Ninyebitahwa with an aim of
promoting herbal medicine to greater heights.
The official from the Ministry of Science and Technology a one Brenda noted that chances of
Rukararwe becoming a center for herbal medicine is very high in the next financial year and pledged
the ministry’s full support to the herbal center.
All the above initiatives and lobbying for Rukararwe have all been done by Hon. Karooro.
