Ugandans who waste time in non profitable activities and end up making poor choices that lead them to poverty face arrest  according to the Rukungiri resident district commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo .

Bewayo says the government is planning to start arresting the poor come 2025 for being as irrelevant to the country’s development agenda

Bewaayo was on Tuesday addressing stakeholders during a familiarization tour organized for the new Rukungiri district Chief Administrative Officer Masokoyi Swalikh Wasswa in Nyakishenyi Sub County in Rubabo County.

Bewayo noted that some people waste time  doing nonprofitable activities, spending extravagantly and under looking available income-generating activities, and end up poor by choice. He says these are the people who deserve to be arrested come 2025.

The team visited several facilities including Katonya health centre 2 which is housed in one building that’s heavily cracked almost collapsing, Bugarama Primary School which has no government building except the yet to be commissioned latrine, Kisya Primary School as well as Nyarubare Primary School in Nyarugando Parish where teachers teach for only 2 days a week due to a lack of staff quarters.

Chief Administrative officer Masokoyi Swalich Wasswa lectured on mindset change and implored district authorities to focus on sensitizing and counseling men to work towards the improved welfare of their families.

The Chairperson LC3 Nyakishenyi Twinomujuni Wednesday called for the split of the sub county, the elevation of the existing health facilities and provision of an Ambulance among others

The area district councilor Ainebyoona Brian Baantu welcomed the team and asked the district council to pass a law on  recruiting and deploying resident teachers who are familiar with the place to avoid absenteeism
