Presidential initiative on banana industrial development [PIBID] has finally started exportation of banana floor to south korea.
This was revealed yesterday by head of communications at the project Mr. Keneth Asiimwe during the first annual general meeting of Bumbaire banana cooperative society held at Bumbaire sub-county headquarters.
He noted that the first consignment to South Korea contained 800 kilograms of banana floor. He however added that factory has a production capacity of 40 tones.
Despite the fact that PIBID has its own bananas, it has as well started buying from farmers in the region through cooperatives that have been formed with its assistance.
Mr. Asiimwe who represented PIBID Executive director Rev. Dr. Florence Muranga advised banana cooperative leaders to acquire necessary documents like registration, bank account in a commercial bank among others to be able to do business with PIBID.
He revealed that the major reason why their money delayed as expressed by members in the meeting is because of lack of necessary documentation. Since they had acquired them then the delay of payment will be no more.
According to Bumbaire banana cooperative society chairman Mr. Celiano Muhumuza, PIBID buys a kilogram of fresh matooke at 560 shillings and the society retains 80 shillings for operations.
He added that so far their society has sold bananas to PIBID seven times equivalent to 16,205 kilograms of fresh bananas.
The chief guest at the AGM and launch of the society Mr. Mugume Ndyahoza, Bushenyi district vice chairman advised farmers to utilize the opportunity and make their cooperative society stronger.
He also advised farmers to buy shares in society and requested them to accept into the society their neighboring sub-county Ibaale to be a member in the society.
He finally noted that 351 members of society are few therefore they should mobilize for more members to join the cooperative society.
