Mbarara university of science and technology chancellor Peter Mugyenyi was force to observe a moment of silence for the fallen Cuban President Federal Castrol.

This comes as a result of the eminence contribution of the Cuban Government under Castrol to the growth and development of the university

Mugyenyi noted that when the university started in 1989 the Cuban government provided most senior professors to help in the medical faculty  to provide technical and logistical support to the young institution.

Prof. Mugyenyi added that the university was more than willing to name a block after the fallen Cuban Leader but he left a will which does not allow them or anyone to name a street , building or anything after him.

The chancellor went a head to introduce the Cuban delegation that was a midst the delegation in recognition of what their government has provided to this great institution.

The vice chancellor Celestine Obua in hiis speech told the gathering that 81 medical doctors made it to the graduation scare whereas 8 PhD candidates fulfilled all the requirements and were handed over their PhDs

A total of 1118 student s made to the graduation scare who included the vocal member of parliament for Buhweju district Hon. Francis Mwijukye was a warded   a degree in development studies

486 were females representing 41% whereas males were 59% respectively.

However the minister of state in charge of higher education who represented the minister of education and the first lady Janet Museveni   strongly warned the university administration to avoid by all means strikes  of students and lectures he noted that they must use all means possible means to ensure that strikes are averted.

He hailed Mbarara university of science and technology students and administration for not engaging in very common strikes in most universities of Uganda.

Makarere university was of recently closed for over two months for strikes of both lecturers and students, Kyambogo is relatively peaceful  but some years back students missed the whole semester because of frequent strikes.
