Police in Ibanda district are investigating circumstances under which a suspect who allegedly stole four bunches of bananas from a neighbor died in Police cells on Sunday morning.
Ms. Emily Angomoko,the District Police Commander, identified the deceased as Robert Baguma a resident of Kyaruhimbi village in Keihangaara sub county , Ibanda district.
Angomoko said the suspect is alleged to have used his shirt to hang himself inside the police cells. A police officer on duty was shocked when he opened the door and only to find the man dead as he was alone inside the cells.
“The body of Baguma was taken to Ruhoko health center 1V for post mortem examination” Ms Angomoko explained after visiting the scene from Keihangaara sub county headquarters.
The LC 111 chairperson Francis Kariyo confirmed the death of Baguma who was found dead.
He explained that this is a second person dying in the cell. He noted that the police cell is in poor state and formerly the building was used as an office for Keihangaara sub county.
