48 Girl Pupils of Rwentanga, Mugarusya and Rugarama II primary schools were Saturday and Sunday last week taught how to make their own local sanitary pads to be able to manage their monthly menstruation periods.
The trainer and executive Director of Action for Reproductive health Uganda [ARH] Mrs Riisa Kayuzya a Ugandan living in USA told the girls during training that manufactured pads are expensive and the ordinary girls and parents can’t manage them
She added that the best alternative is to make ordinary pads to rescue them and be able to remain in schools such that they don’t drop out of schools because of the above problem.
The trainings took place at Rwentanga primary school. The money used for training was donated by the family of Dr. John Kayuzya and Ms Riisa Kayuzya.
The NGO action for reproductive health Uganda has not received any funding to do more activities majorly girls’ reproductive health.
Many school going pupils have dropped out of schools in Uganda’s rural areas because they cant manage the cost of sanitary pads during menstruation periods. This is a big problem that ARH is trying to address.
