In Bushenyi
High court in Bushenyi district yesterday sentenced a 28 year old man to 20years in Nyamushekyera government prison on charges of aggrevated defilement.
Court presided over by the Mbarara Resident judge Joyce Kavuma heard that on 13th January 2013 Enold Tumuhirwe a resident of kagati trading center Bumbaire Bushenyi district performed a sexual act on a 4 year old toddler.
Prosecution stated that Tumuhirwe while at Kagati trading center chased the other children the toddler was playing with, persuaded her into the house from where he defiled her well knowing he was HIV positive.
The convict later gave the toddler two bans so that she could keep quiet but she reported the abuse to the mother who informed the Bushenyi police and he was arrested.
Initially the convict pleaded not guilty but with later accepted the offence.
While giving her sentence, Joyce said that such punishments are meant to send message to the public that barbaric acts are prohibited. She added that instead of abusing the children, the public should protect them.
