Ibanda Municipality which was granted by the Local government has kicked off officially on 01.7.2016 amid concerns from the residents of Nsasi Sub County, Ibanda district about the transparency of the process.
The LC 5 district councillor for Nsasi,Mr. Godwin Muhumuza told www.mknewslink.com news website yesterday that several concerns were raised by residents, LC officials and party representatives in Nsasi sub county, but the authorities in Ibanda town council kept a deaf ear.
Mr. Muhumuza accused the technical team which did not consult the stakeholders so that the residents could give their own views about the allocation of their Division headquarters.
Ibanda municipality has created the Divisions of Kagongo, Bufunda and Kagongo composed with over 105,000 population o people,
According to Mr. Muhumuza ,Nsasi sub county falls under Bufunda division which comprises with part of Nyabuhikye sub county. He explains that before Nsasi was granted its own sub county,it was under Nyabuhikye sub county. He adds that after developing misunderstandings, a thing that he described as trial to manage their own sub county, they decided to leave the big fish and form Nsasi sub county.
“What I want to assure the leaders of Ibanda municipality is that enough is enough and we are not going back to Nyabuhikye sub county to work together in Bufunda division to open old wounds”. Mr. Muhumuza said. Mr. Muhumuza cited the problem of transport that the distance is too long covering over 10 miles for the residents of Nsasi access the division headquarters.
He said that separation from Nyabuhikye sub county 15 years agois compared like some a story in the Bible where the departure of the people of Israel from Egypt,where they had been as slaves to go to Canaan the promised land,after reaching in Canaan,they were not foced to return to Egypt. He called the people of Nsasi to devotion to remain as an entity of Nsasi sub county.
The Principal Town clerk,Ms. Justine Barekye explained that the Divisions were demarcated by a technical team and it came out with a resolution of crating the divisions of Kagongo, Bufunda and Bisheeshe respectively. She added that Ibanda municipality has already kicked off with effect from 01.7.2016 covering parts of Kyaruhanga, Bufunda, Kagongo, Rugazi, Kashangura, Bisheeshe, Nsasi , Nyabuhikye and kigarama He also added that it is the government which approved Ibanda municipality.
